Statement on Scholarly and/or Artistic Work

  • Dr. Javier Juárez-Pérez’s scholarly work is centered on local economic development, with particular attention to how local governments design and implement economic incentive packages to attract private investment and stimulate job creation. His research agenda seeks to understand the short- and long-term fiscal and social impacts of these discretionary incentives, offering insights into how public officials can avoid unintended consequences—such as excessive tax concessions to companies or ineffective public spending—while fostering sustainable and equitable growth and development. With a solid grounding in economics, public policy, and political science, Dr. Juárez-Pérez employs an interdisciplinary approach that draws on urban economics, financial condition analysis, and the political economy of local governments.
  • Dr. Juárez-Pérez envisions his research as a bridge between scholarship and practice. He is committed to producing applied work that informs the decision-making processes of city governments, urban development boards, and economic development policy think tanks, generating consulting reports tailored to local contexts and contributing to evidence-based policy discussions. Dr. Juárez-Pérez also sees student engagement as an integral part of his scholarly mission. By developing pedagogical materials that combine theoretical frameworks with real-world case studies, he aims to prepare the next generation of scholars and practitioners in public policy, public administration, and political science.
